The word luxury is used to describe all manner of things, but in the world of cars, it’s something that many car makers aspire to, but very few achieve. For the best brands, there’s no limit to the number of upmarket touches and technology you’ll find in the cabin, while most deliver the kind of performance that is fast but leaves occupants unruffled.
While luxury cars are still finding buyers, the majority of pure luxury cars are more likely to be used for private hire purposes these days, or possibly as a rental for special occasions. Other models deliver something extra in terms of driver involvement to make them more attractive to private buyers or business users, although most will still be able to offer plenty of space in the back seats to cater for the most demanding passenger.
The big factor with luxury cars is exactly how much luxury you get for your money. The best cars come with plush seats covered in soft leather, while even the seats in the back will come with electric adjustment and massage functions. There will be legroom to spare and the kind of in-car entertainment that used to be the preserve of top-end recording studios, with high-end audio and visual systems that can be tailored to any requirement or need.

We Indians are probably the only people in the world who do not take road safety too seriously. Such is the level of negligence for safety in the country that if we are asked to select between an Airbag or Discount – we will always prefer discounts. This is the primary reason that manufacturers don’t offer airbags or other safety devices in India. But this trend is changing rapidly as the Government is planning to introduce more stringent laws related to safety in the country.
Owing to the pressure, manufacturers have started introducing airbags as standard in all their models, starting from Toyota, who was the first manufacturer to offer standard airbags in all the models. While 2 airbags (driver and passenger) are a common offering these days, manufacturers like Ford have moved an inch ahead with 6 airbags (curtain and side) in all their cars.

A fresh notification issued from the Central Government’s Ministry of Road Transport and Highways makes it mandatory for all new cars to have ABS from April 2019. To ensure that the regulation is successfully implemented, the ministry has also instructed automakers to make ABS as standard on all new models which are launched after April 2018. It is important to note that the above mentioned deadlines are not applicable to vehicles which are sold before the mentioned period.
The ABS system prevents wheels from locking up during emergency braking conditions. Global studies indicates that ABS system can reduce the risk of crashes by over 20 per cent on an average. Introducing ABS in cars will not be a major cost to automakers and will set back by only by a few thousand rupees. Currently, automakers like Maruti Suzuki have been offering ABS as standard along with dual airbags in cars sold via its premium Nexa dealerships.
Most automakers in the country have also started offering airbag as option right from base variant onwards. Along with offering maximum control at braking, the technology allows the driver to steer away without much effort. On the pricing aspect, we believe cars with ABS might be cost an additional Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000. The automakers might also soon start offering airbags along with ABS as standard.

oo often we forget to recognize the richness that defines our lives–all the abundance and joy we experience. Instead, we focus on what we do not have or what is wrong. The glass is half-empty versus the glass is half-full. This may be because we are bombarded with negative messages via the media and commercials or because we have forgotten to enjoy the little things–versus keeping up with the neighbors who seem to ‘have it all.’
Consequently, our gratitude exists in constant conflict with our desire for more, whether we desire time, convenience, wealth or enlightenment. Understanding and truly appreciating our blessings can be as simple as walking a mile in another’s shoes or stepping out of the whirlwind of activity to sit and listen to someone talk from their heart. For many people, many of life’s abundances are taken for granted–attaining an education, buying healthy food, driving a luxery car, having a housekeeper, etc.
To experience firsthand the complex tests others face in their daily lives, live without the amenities you take for granted. This is a great experiment for the entire family. Learning what things you take for granted can help you and your children appreciate the abundances you have. Challenge yourself to buy nutritious foods for $100 for one week, or take public transportation to work for a week. As you explore your life without things you normally take for granted–ask yourself–“How long would I endure, if this was my life?”
The compassionate gratitude that flows into your heart when you come to fully realize the abundance you enjoy may awaken pangs of guilt in your heart. Remind yourself that the purpose of this experiment is to open your heart further to gratitude and compassion. Your new awareness can help you attain a deeper level of gratitude that will allow you to savor and, most of all, appreciate your life with renewed gratitude, grace and humility.
